'i'm a criminal of memory' On the 25th of May 2009, Israeli government drafted a law to ban Nakba Day. The proposed law would have made it illegal to hold events or cermonies marking the Nakba. A further bill would have mandated the imprisonment of anyone who calls for the end of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state. Another bill made any form of incitement illegal. In practice the bills implied that anyone who criticised the state could be imprisoned. Arab and Jewish students in Ben Guryon University in Be'er Sheva protested against the proposed laws and called on the Bibi-Liberman-Barak government to stop legislating racist laws.
