Israeli colonial forces declared a "complete siege” on Gaza and launched hundreds of airstrikes, killing more than 500 Palestinians in an area home to 2.3 million people, most of whom are refugees with nowhere to flee. On the morning of October 7, the Palestinian resistance led by Hamas launched a surprise attack called the Al-Aqsa Flood operation. Dozens of resistance fighters raided Israeli settlements and thousands of rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip. Hundreds of Israelis were killed and injured. Multiple Israeli hostages are now reportedly being held by Hamas in Gaza.
