Palestinians participate in the funeral of 31-year-old Palestinian Naem Al Faran, who was killed by the Israeli colonial forces during a raid in Askar refugee camp, located in Nablus, West Bank, October 29, 2023. Israeli colonial forces and settlers have killed 114 Palestinians in the West Bank, including at least 20 children, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Israeli colonial forces have closed crossings and checkpoints across the West Bank, displacing Palestinian shepherd communities amid access restrictions and intensified settler violence. Army raids into Palestinian cities and villages and arrests have sharply increased over the last three weeks, doubling the population of Palestinian prisoners to more than 10,000, according to Palestinian officials. There has been also a sharp rise in settler attacks on Palestinians and several Palestinian communities have been forcibly displaced.
The Activestills collective was established in 2005 by a group of documentary photographers, out of a strong conviction that photography is a vehicle for social change. We believe in the power of images to shape public attitudes and to raise awareness on issues that are generally absent from public discourse.
We view ourself as part of the struggle against all forms of oppression, racism, and violations of the basic right to freedom. We do work on various topics, including the grassroots movement and the popular struggle against the Israeli occupation, women’s rights, immigration, asylum-seekers, social justice, the siege on Gaza, and housing rights inside Israel.
