Around 10,000 people take part in the 16th annual March of Return in the displaced and demolished village of Khubayza, northern Israel, April 16, 2013. Although the Nakba is commemorated on May 14th, the March of Return occurs on the same day Israelis celebrate Independence Day. The march is held every year since 1998 and demands the Right of Return for Palestinian refugees who were forcefully displaced and deported from their homes and lands in 1948, during the creation of the state of Israel. Today, there are around 5 million displaced Palestinian refugees, most of whom still live in refugee camps in poor conditions, with no legal status, or a home to claim as their own.
