In view of the Israeli settlement outpost Sde Bar, Jazya Mohsen from the West Bank village of Jubbet ad-Dib, carries a bundle of pruned olive branches, October 9, 2013. Village residents were able to enter their land adjacent to the Sde Bar outpost for the first time in 15 years following legal intervention from the Israeli organization Yesh Din. Because the olive trees had not been tended in such a long time, they were in very bad condition. Sde Bar, established in 1998, has taken more than 20 dunums of Jubbet ad-Dib's village land and is illegal under both Israeli and International Law.
The Activestills collective was established in 2005 by a group of documentary photographers, out of a strong conviction that photography is a vehicle for social change. We believe in the power of images to shape public attitudes and to raise awareness on issues that are generally absent from public discourse.
We view ourself as part of the struggle against all forms of oppression, racism, and violations of the basic right to freedom. We do work on various topics, including the grassroots movement and the popular struggle against the Israeli occupation, women’s rights, immigration, asylum-seekers, social justice, the siege on Gaza, and housing rights inside Israel.
