Palestinians examine the ruins of a 14-story residential tower, called the Palestine Tower, that also holds Hamas and media offices after it was targeted by an airstrike carried out by Israeli colonial forces in central Gaza City, October 7, 2023. This morning, the Palestinian resistance led by Hamas, launched a massive operation on Israeli settlements and military facilities inside '48. Hundreds of resistance fighters raided Israeli settlements and thousands of rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip. Hundreds of Israelis were injured, among them at least 100 casualties. Multiple Israeli hostages are now reportedly being held by Hamas in Gaza. The Israeli colonial forces are carrying out airstrikes across Gaza. According to reports by the Palestinian Medical sources in Gaza, at least 200 Palestinians have been killed in the Israeli air attacks.
The Activestills collective was established in 2005 by a group of documentary photographers, out of a strong conviction that photography is a vehicle for social change. We believe in the power of images to shape public attitudes and to raise awareness on issues that are generally absent from public discourse.
We view ourself as part of the struggle against all forms of oppression, racism, and violations of the basic right to freedom. We do work on various topics, including the grassroots movement and the popular struggle against the Israeli occupation, women’s rights, immigration, asylum-seekers, social justice, the siege on Gaza, and housing rights inside Israel.
