Palestinians cross a road flooded by water after it was damaged by nearby airstrike carried out by Israeli colonial forces in Beit Lahiya, north Gaza, October 9, 2023. Israeli colonial forces declared a "complete siege” on Gaza and launched hundreds of airstrikes, killing more than 500 Palestinians in an area home to 2.3 million people, most of whom are refugees with nowhere to flee. On October 7, the Palestinian resistance launched a massive operation called Al-Aqsa Flood on Israeli settlements inside '48. Dozens of resistance fighters raided Israeli settlements and thousands of rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip. Hundreds of Israelis were killed and injured. Multiple Israeli hostages are now reportedly being held by Hamas in Gaza.
The Activestills collective was established in 2005 by a group of documentary photographers, out of a strong conviction that photography is a vehicle for social change. We believe in the power of images to shape public attitudes and to raise awareness on issues that are generally absent from public discourse.
We view ourself as part of the struggle against all forms of oppression, racism, and violations of the basic right to freedom. We do work on various topics, including the grassroots movement and the popular struggle against the Israeli occupation, women’s rights, immigration, asylum-seekers, social justice, the siege on Gaza, and housing rights inside Israel.
