Palestinians mourn the dead after Israeli colonial forces withdrew from the occupied West Bank city of Jenin and the Jenin refugee camp leaving behind a trail of death and devastation, September 6, 2024. Displaced residents returned to their homes, which they had been forced by colonial forces to evacuate or had fled due to the military assault, and were joined by volunteers who came to help clear the devastation. On August 28, Israeli forces started the largest offensive on the occupied West Bank since the Second Intifada, targeting Jenin, Nur Shams and the Far’a refugee camps from land and air. The attack killed at least 39 Palestinians, including children, injured hundreds more and caused widespread destruction. Israeli soldiers supported by military aircraft, drones and bulldozers besieged Jenin. leaving Palestinians with no food, water or electricity, and obstructing access to medical care and humanitarian aid. Israeli bulldozers razed streets in the center of Jenin and demolished shops, destroying vital infrastructure, shops and homes. According to the Jenin municipality, colonial forces have bulldozed nearly 70 percent of the city’s streets and 20km of its water and sewage networks.
