Mass demonstration against the war on Gaza and war crimes commited by Israel, Tel Aviv, December 27, 2008. On December 27, 2008 Israeli forces began a wave of attacks on the Gaza Strip. A ground invasion followed on January 3, 2009. This offensive, known as "Operation Cast Lead", killed some 1,400 Palestinians, most of them civilians. 13 Israelis were also killed in the fighting, though four of them were soldiers who died from "friendly fire".
